The rendered vertical bar chart depicts the information about gender composition of illiteracy statistics in six geographical zones in the year 2000.

Overall, it is clear that Sub-Saharan Africa, Arab countries, and South Asia had the maximum rates of non- literacy, while advanced countries had nearly negligible rates. Significantly, in all regions, women surpassed men in number in terms of illiteracy.

To begin with, the ratios of men and women who were uneducated in developed countries constituted to be 1% and 2%, respectively. Contrarily, Latin America and the Caribbean had higher illiteracy rates, with 10% of males and 11% of females. In East Asia and Oceania, the gender disparity was considerable, with 20% of females lacking literacy skills in comparison to 8% of males.

Examining further, when compared to other regions, Sub-Saharan Africa had dramatically higher proportions of illiterate people, with 48% of women and 30% of men non-literate. Correspondingly, illiteracy rates in Arab countries were disproportionately high, with 53% of women and 28% of men lacking basic literacy skills. Interestingly, in these regions, over 50% of the female population and one-quarter of the male population had never attended any educational institute.
