The table reveals the information about the ownership of a range of consumer durables in Britain from 1972 to 1983.

In an overview, it is clear that possession upsurged in the majority of households during this time. With ownership rates rising gradually, the data shows that televisions were the most widely used consumer durable in Britain during this time.

To begin with, the next choices for the British populace at this time were vacuum cleaners and refrigerators. While vacuum cleaner ownership increased from 87% in 1972 to 95% by 1982, refrigerator ownership rose from 73% in 1972 to 94% in 1983. Interestingly, the ownership of washing machines witnessed a drastic incline from 66% to 80%, placing them fourth in the list.

Furthermore, Over the course of eleven years, the ownership rates of telephones increased from 42% to 77% and central heating increased from 37% to 64%, respectively. The preference for other home goods, such as video equipment and dishwashers, was, however, less overt.
